In 1997 we started running the Artist-In-Residence (AIR) of water-based woodblock printmaking at Nagasawa Art Park on Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture.
In 2011 we moved the place of AIR to Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture and established International Mokuhanga Innovation Lab(MI-LAB). MI-LAB has continued its activity since 2011.
239 artists and educators from 43 countries participated in the MI-LAB AIR from 1997 to 2019.
The 1st International Mokuhanga Conference (IMC) was held in Awaji and Kyoto in 2011 in response to requests from overseas.
In 2014 the 2nd IMC was held in Tokyo (the host school: Tokyo University of the Arts).
In 2017 the 3rd IMC was held in Hawaii (the venue: University of Hawaii).
After the 3rd IMC, NPO The Japan Committee of the International Mokuhanga Association was established in response to the requests from overseas to continue the international conference.
